UKís first ever E-NVQ at Level 5 awarded

Lord Mayor of Coventry to present award at Adult Learning Inspectorate on Thursday

The Lord Mayor of Coventry will present Adult Learning Inspectorate Assistant Director Lesley Davies with her E-NVQ in Strategic Management at Level 5 this Thursday, the first to be awarded in the UK.

Lesley Daviesí historic achievement in completing her qualification electronically demonstrates how modern technology and innovative teaching methods are being used to transform adult learning. E-learning has introduced greater accessibility and flexibility to the sector, enabling people who might otherwise not have considered further study to complete courses without having to be physically present in a classroom.

North East Worcester College, where Lesley completed her qualification, operates a web based E-NVQ system whereby candidates can upload their work on to their own personal secure space and also receive feedback electronically from their assessors. Taped question and answer sessions between learner and assessor can also be uploaded on to the E-NVQ system to form part of the overall portfolio of work.

Remote learning allows adults to strike a better work-life balance, cutting out the need to find time to attend structured evening classes or travel to and from College, and enabling people to learn from home ñ all they need is the ability to connect to the Internet. For senior managers like Lesley, whose work frequently takes her all over the country, the flexibility of these methods opens up a world of new learning possibilities.

ALI staff have a proud tradition of promoting adult learning and Lesley is one of the many ALI staff who have practiced what they preach by undertaking further study themselves. Said Lesley:

ìHaving inspected adult learning for many years, it was particularly interesting for me to have the shoe on the other foot as a learner myself. I am proud to be the first person in the UK to receive an E-NVQ at Level 5, and I hope my experience will inspire other adults who might not have previously considered further study, to follow this route.î

Lesleyís presentation ceremony takes place at 11.30am on Thursday 29th June at the Adult Learning Inspectorate in Coventry. The Lord Mayor of Coventry, and staff from North East Worcester College and the ALI itself, will be in attendance.
