Respected authorities Dr Margaret Wheatley and Professor Mike van Oudtshoorn will be tackling why good leadership has become more difficult to sustain in the 21st century at a one-day seminar hosted by i-coach academy in London on December 10th 2005.
The seminar, ìCoaching for Leadership and Leading as a Coach in Uncertain Timesî will explore the challenges todayís leaders are facing. The key focus will be on sustaining servant leadership; a servant leader is a leader who ensures other peopleís highest priority needs are being served. Those served can then develop as people and are more likely to serve others themselves in a coaching leadership style rather than a directive, controlling leadership style.
Increasingly, good leaders are constrained, influenced and even coerced into behaviours that they know do not yield beneficial results. Dr Margaret Wheatley has spent many years puzzling over why good leadership has become more difficult, and how to foster servant leadership in the midst of this resurgence of command and control. In this seminar, she will explore several culturally rooted beliefs that lead people in authority down the control path and encourage them to clearly see these deep cultural influences in themselves and those they support from adopting a servant-leader role.
Delegates will benefit from the expertise of Dr Wheatleyís experience and ideas for leading in chaotic times combined with Professor van Oudtshoornís authoritative knowledge of using coaching to develop the leadership potential of organisations. Primarily designed to help leaders further their understanding of the servant leader, the leader as coach approach, the seminar will also be of value to those whose role it is to coach leaders and support them to sustain servant-leader behaviours in todayís uncertain environment.
Said Caroline Horner, Director of i-coach academy, a world leader in the development of professional coaches and a pioneer in offering a professional masters qualification in coaching: ìTo be a good leader in todayís rapidly changing environment is more difficult than ever, but help is on hand. Dr Wheatley and Professor van Oudtshoorn are leaders in their fields and, by combining their skills, they will give delegates an unique insight into the challenges we face to sustain servant-leadership in these uncertain times. î
The event takes place on Saturday, 10 December at the Royal Lancaster Hotel, London. Further details and booking forms are available from caroline@i-coach academy.com
