The editorial team of tes.co.uk has been recognised by the Association of Online Publishers, winning the award for Editorial Team in the Business category.
The awards ceremony, attended by around 650 guests at the London Hilton on Friday 7 October, saw tes.co.uk triumph against stiff competition. tes.co.uk was acclaimed by the judges for the quality and originality of its content as well as the enterprise, creativity and understanding of the market, which was demonstrated in its brand development and the evident success of the product.
Commenting on the entry, the judges said:
ìTes.co.uk knows its business. The site brings you into the world of teachers and the team injects a sense of humour and real personality into everything it does. The team has created an accessible and inviting environment and has used its skill to develop a site that is relevant and of enormous value to its thriving community users.î
With average monthly unique users regularly topping 277,000, there is no doubt about the popularity of tes.co.uk. Key distinguishing factors identified by the judges included the way chat forums (or ëStaffroomí) have been nurtured ñ helping them develop into the UKís number one arena for educational professionals to debate, help each other and socialise online. The role of the site in TES campaigns was also cited ñ the 2005 ëMake the Linkí campaign for example ñ which raised awareness of school linking, and attracted entries for a new awards scheme.
Bill Hicks, TES Web Editor, picked up the award on behalf of the team: ìI am immensely proud of this achievement, particularly as itís the first time the contribution of editorial on the site has been recognised by our peers in the internet world ñ you only need to log into the Staffroom to see that editorial issues raised really do tap into the key concerns of our audience.î
He added: ìëEditorial teamí is an interesting concept when it comes to a website like tes.co.uk ñ so clearly the product not just of journalists, web designers and developers, but fundamentally of readers and users ñ itís great that all of these contributors are recognised with this award.î
