SPECTRUMs HRIS awarded high marks in rugged security testing

Web-based HR system passes in key areas of access and data protection

Denver, Colo. - SPECTRUM Human Resource Systems Corp., a leading Human Resource Information System (HRIS) provider, is taking the initiative and leading the way toward ensuring the protection of its web-based HR system. Earlier this month, SPECTRUM successfully passed a rugged series of security testing by Security Innovation, Inc., the leading independent provider of application security services, which awarded high marks of quality and security for SPECTRUMís HR software application.

ìThe items we tested for would allow an unauthorized user to access or tamper with mission critical and sensitive data and escalate privileges ñ two extremely dangerous capabilities and by far, the most damaging to enterprises,î said Dr. Herbert Thompson, PhD, Chief Security Strategist at Security Innovation.

Security Innovation tested SPECTRUMís HRIS in four major security areas, including authenticated access, authorized access, protection of sensitive data integrity, and protection of data integrity. The testing targeted potential areas in the system where a security risk may occur. The HRIS also underwent tests that checked for common website attacks, functional security tests, and business model attacks, further validating the systemís integrity. ìSecurity Innovation commends SPECTRUM for considering software quality as an important and meaningful differentiator,î Thompson said. ìThird-party validation is a critical step to vetting any good quality solution - software is no different. Our reliability and security testing helped SPECTRUM turn out a high-quality solution for their customers.î

Since an HRIS holds confidential HR information, it is critical for consumers to make sure the HR system they are purchasing has gone through and passed security vulnerability testing during development, according to industry analysts. This is one reason SPECTRUM deemed it necessary to test its HRIS.

ìWe see third-party expert validation of application quality as a growing need from our customer base,î said Sybll Romley, Vice President, Sales and Marketing at SPECTRUM. ìOur customers rely on us to deliver feature-rich products, while also protecting their sensitive employee and corporate data. The Security Tested Program shows that SPECTRUM has gone through extensive quality measures to deliver a solid product to our clients.î

ìAs a client, we have greater peace of mind knowing that SPECTRUM is taking steps to protect their clients well-being and highly confidential data,î said Amy Murphy, HRIS Administrator at Bingham McCutchen LLP. ìThe fact that they initiated this security check and stay on top of Microsoftís latest developments are some of many reasons we like their productÖitís a very high quality system.î

Along with obtaining a seal of approval from Security Innovation, SPECTRUM earned the SQL Server 2000 designation from VeriTest, where it ran a stress-test on the SQL server in 2004. Additionally, SPECTRUM is a Microsoft Gold Certified Partner and has acquired the .NET connected on its self-service module from Microsoft.
