Recruitment, jobs and training fair, Careers & Jobs Live and theGRADfair, enjoyed another record year at ExCeL. 22,550 students, graduates and ambitious individuals came through the doors on Sunday 10 and Monday 11 April 2005 looking for new careers, free CV advice and help with training to get themselves on the right track for that dream job.
The event was opened on Sunday by Sir Robin Wales, Elected Mayor for Newham and Jim Fitzpatrick, MP for Poplar and Canning Town. Sir Robin said ìVery impressive. Some of the projects and stands are very imaginative. Clearly a lot of people want to work and there is a lot of enthusiasm from both exhibitors and visitors.î
And Jim had more praise to give ìIt is wonderful seeing another fantastic exhibition with thousands of people looking for work and training opportunities.î
The event, hosted by Jarvis Exhibitions, had a huge variety of exhibitors offering thousands of opportunities. Amongst the exhibitors at Careers and Jobs Live were: The Metropolitan and British Transport Police Forces, Royal Navy, British Gas, BBC, Somerfield, the NHS, Premier Travel Inn and The Teacher Training Agency.
The show once again, featured the Thames Gateway Learning and Jobs Zone which aims to highlight opportunities within Londonís Thames Gateway and beyond, giving the regionís leading organisations the chance to meet some of the areaís most promising recruits who are looking to work in Europeís largest regeneration zone.
Sponsored by Jobnet, the regionís leading provider of employment, pre-employment support and advice, the four main themes of the Thames Gateway Learning & Jobs Zone were jobs, training, advice & guidance.
Bruce Birchall, Exhibition Director said: ìThis yearís event has been a phenomenal success with more visitors to a careers event than we have known in recent history. The quality of personnel has been of the highest calibre ranging from graduates, job seekers, school and college leavers to the unemployed. The mix has been fantastic and we have had way over 100 very satisfied exhibitors.î
Other exciting features at the show included cookery demonstrations from London and Edinburgh Inns and regular features of the show were back by popular demand - the Wall of Opportunity ñ a jobs board posted with hundreds of current opportunities available at various stands.
