Staffing and recruiting professionals cite their business is steady or slightly improving

The survey detailed staffing and recruiting professionalsí opinions on their business throughout late Q1 and early Q2 of 2009. Out of 216 respondents to the survey, almost three-quarters of the respondents (74%) stated that their business was either staying relatively flat or slightly improving, with about equal proportions in each of the stated categories. This complements recent economic news published in the American Staffing Associations (ASA) article ìImproved GDP Outlook Signaled by Economistsî. The ASA revealed that economic growth estimates have been recently upgraded by both economists and Federal Reserve commissioners to 0.9% for the third quarter of this year and 2.0% for the fourth quarter. According to past data an average of 1% economic growth is needed for growth in the staffing and recruiting industry. Additionally, research from the ASA identifies that a sustained upturn in the staffing industry can signal the end of a current recession.

In the online survey, business, ìdeclining,î came in third place with 16 percent, after a small difference between slightly improving (36%) and staying flat (38%). Significantly improving took only 10 percent of all votes in the poll.
