Salary rises of 6-8% standard in professional services firms

DMJ’s Professional Services Company Secretarial Salary Survey has highlighted a buoyant company secretarial market in the sector

DMJ’s Professional Services Company Secretarial Salary Survey has highlighted a buoyant company secretarial market in the sector. In order to retain talent pay increases of 6-8% are standard in law firms, accountancy firms and other companies offering company secretarial services. Company secretaries with certain skills including legal drafting or business development are seeing rises of up to 12%.

The findings of the survey, based on qualitative and quantitative research along with market intelligence gathered from DMJ’s day to day operations highlight the value of development throughout a company secretary’s career in professional services. Those at a junior level are typically rewarded for completing appropriate qualifications, while as careers progress company secretaries are increasingly rewarded for their team management and business development skills.

Leena Babajee, senior consultant at DMJ Company Secretarial commented “While the market is buoyant, much of the movement is being driven by ambitious, small and highly profitable firms who are able to outmanoeuvre larger competitors hamstrung by pay freezes instigated during the global financial crisis. Candidates are increasingly being rewarded on their value to the organisation rather than simply their job title and years of experience.”

The survey breaks down salaries by experience level, providing ranges as well as average salary brackets. It also looks at bonuses, pensions and the factors that drive salary at different levels.
