Workplace Options has added a bonus presentation this month to their popular webinar series. The webinar, called ìTalking with John Georgeî, will be presented on October 26th from 2-3pm EST.
John George was featured in the PBS documentary ìAlmost Homeî, which chronicled a year in the life of Saint Johnís On-The-Lake, a retirement community located in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. John George is the visionary nursing home director of Saint Johnís, a facility celebrating over 135 years of service to the community.
Saint Johnís has broken away from the traditional medical model of institutional living and has instead focused on building a true community for older adults. Residents are given much greater autonomy and are encouraged to participate in their own care planning. Employees are considered part of this community where Individualized care is the norm. This has resulted in a higher standard of care and a much more positive experience for residents and staff alike.
Webinar participants will learn how Mr. Georgeís experience of visiting the nursing home where his mother worked led to his championship of a better way of life for older adults. He will explain how small changes such as allowing residents to choose their own meal and sleep times helps them to embrace Saint Johnís as their new home. He will also discuss the philosophy of ìperson-firstî and how it has transformed Saint Johnís into a leading retirement facility.
