Harriet Harman today has described the financial industry as a ìbreeding ground for discriminationî as it emerged that women working in the city were being pad as much as 60% less than male colleagues. According to the Equality and Human Rights Commission, men are also receiving nearly 80% more in perks and bonuses.
Trevor Philips, head of the EHRC, said that the Government should force more companies to reveal their pay policies, commenting: ìWomen do not have equal status or equal rewards.î
William OíNeill, head of employment at Rowlandís solicitors, is available to discuss what action employees should take if being refused equal pay to a male colleague fulfilling exactly the same role, including whether employment law as it stands can offer women any protection from this practice.
