Will social networking sites shape the future landscape of the recruitment process?

Nick Dettmar, Managing Director of Computer People, comments on the rise of recruitment via social networking

With recent survey findings indicating the sudden rise of recruitment via social networking sites, Nick Dettmar, Managing Director of Computer People, part of the Adecco group provides the following comment;

The ever increasing popularity of social networking sites has indeed begun to shape the future landscape of the recruitment process and forces us to consider the varied ways and means in which to reach potential candidates.

As the findings of the ATSCo survey suggest, recruiters are increasingly open to new methods of communication and are well aware of the social influence sites such as these possess. Although print advertising has often been the traditional approach in the past to finding that next step on the career ladder, over the last few years the younger more IT savvy candidates will always access the internet as their first port of call.

IT graduates who are very much part of the Facebook generation will increasingly use this approach to job seeking as an alternative to those more traditional and well established methods such as print advertising. In many ways the jobs pages of our IT magazines and newspapers are commonly an overlooked resource in finding the perfect job.
