ìThat thing on your desk is a phone!î explains Voyager Softwareís Sales Director.

Paul Thompson, Sales Director at Voyager for over 10 years has seen both the boom and bust of the Recruitment industry. ìThere is no doubt that the Industry as a whole is suffering, but letís not forget the basicsî, says Thompson.

The drop in sales levels can only be accelerated by Recruiters talking themselves down and forgetting the basics – Recruitment is a ëSales and Serviceí business.

ìHaving seen many, many recruiters moving into internal recruitment positions the feedback is stark – Hiring Managerís say their phones are not ringing!! At a time when you would expect Recruiters to roll up their sleeves and work their phones and contact network, the opposite seems to be happening.î

Voyager has seen an upsurge in start-ups in 2009. The more experienced recruiters, together with those with an appetite to create and find business are still making placements. ìRecruiters who have entered the market in the last few years, when finding business was easy, have only experienced growth in the sector: some have become lazy.î

Thompson met with many Recruiters at the National Recruitment Federationís Annual Conference in Dublin - Irish Recruiters appear to be coping better and are in general more up-beat.

ìThat thing on your desk – Itís a phone! If itís not ringing, it can be used for outbound callsî.
