Video Resumes - A Beginning

Itís all happening so fast now itís hard to keep up.

A little while ago I had the audacity to suggest that Youtube may offer HR more in the future. Far from being a mish mash of low-cost, low-quality, home-made videos, I suggested that Youtube could emerge as an effective way for candidates to communicate their value to HR.

Unfortunately, I wasnít audacious or predictive, or even particularly smart about this. I was just late.

Itís already started.

The first, and in retrospect obvious, users of Youtube are people in the TV or movie industries. They are always selling themselves and have no issue with confidentiality. Youtube is just an extension of existing efforts to make themselves known.

Wetjello just put me on to James Wieland. Heís a weatherman, as you can see. If a HR Manager or Recruiter in a TV station or TV channel needs a new weatherman, itís simply a matter of watching this 5 minute video to make a decision to move forward with James, or not.

Now all we need is a little confidentiality to make it work for the rest of us.
