“There has been some surprise that unemployment has continued to fall but the reality is that we’ve experienced a downturn like no other and we’re seeing a recovery, of sorts, that is similarly unique. In truth, the market is a mixed bag meaning that poor growth is being accompanied by stronger than expected job figures.
“It can only be a welcome that we are seeing a fall in the ranks of the unemployed, as firms attempt to hang on to valuable staff and have taken some people on, mostly as temporary or part-time staff. However, with wages pretty flat, even for those in work, times are still feeling pretty tight.”
