Totaljobs.com marks successful year following multiple website improvements for recruiters and jobseekers

Totaljobs.com has made a series of unique advances and improvements to its service in a year that has seen the jobs website reach new highs in audience reach and response to jobs

Totaljobs.com has made a series of unique advances and improvements to its service in a year that has seen the jobs website reach new highs in audience reach and response to jobs.

Traffic to the website in September increased 45% year-on-year, with job applications exceeding 2.3 million, a year-on-year increase of 41%, as jobseekers stepped up their efforts following last month’s 17 year unemployment high.

Totaljobs.com has also recently topped ABC’s audited Job Board list for public audits beating the likes of Reed.co.uk and Gumtree in areas such as monthly and daily unique users while NetObserver®, the largest study of European internet users of its kind, conducted by Harris Interactive, revealed that totaljobs.com was the second most popular careers website behind Direct.gov but ahead of all private sector competition.

Most significantly, Totaljobs.com developed targeted mobile technology for the site to allow for optimised web page access, enabling jobseekers to have a streamlined mobile user experience, including being fully able to attach a pre-loaded CV and apply for a job by mobile device. The complete platform and hardware agnostic delivery means people's growing preferences in using mobiles to access the web, shop, search and interact now extends to job seeking which they are able to do when, how and where they want. Jobseekers also have access to jobs by email setting via their mobiles so they can create their own email alerts based on exactly what they’re looking for from a job, taking the hassle out of searching for a new role.

John Salt, Director of totaljobs.com said: “The world of technology has moved at a breakneck speed, and the use of the web and online technology for recruitment is now completely immersed in our day to day culture. Totaljobs.com has been at the forefront of this, and will continue to provide recruiters and jobseekers alike with the latest technologies to make resourcing candidates and finding a job as simple, effective and easy as possible. Jobseeker behaviour has changed remarkably in the past few years, which demands recruitment technology to change with it.”

Other improvements this year include:

  • A more advanced back office system to allow recruiters complete control to manage their own account
  • Self serve featured job templates – to help recruiters fully brand a job advert, with colour and images it now takes a matter of seconds

Totaljobs.com has a number of developments to further improve its offering to keep recruiters ahead of the curve in 2012:

  • A simple ‘Add’ field to a jobseeker profile for jobseekers to enter their social network profile URL and link button
  • Extract data from jobseekers' social media profile to populate their totaljobs.com profile
  • Enable recruiters to share jobs they have just posted within their social networks
  • Enable jobseekers to share job details and search results pages with their social networks

John Salt said: “As a result of our mobile enhancements and consumer preference we have seen our mobile traffic more than double. Now 1 in 9 of all visits are from a mobile device and over 4% of applications are made via mobiles. This is expected to grow extensively over the next few years. By offering jobseekers the ability to access job adverts on the go, they can be more targeted in their approach to applying for jobs. As a result, we anticipate our recruiter clients will be able to source even better matched candidates for their jobs.”

Transport links
Totaljobs.com launched a new transport links feature which enables jobseekers to find the nearest transport links to jobs advertised on the website. The new feature appears within the popular ‘map view’ of jobs – a service launched in 2010, and will allow jobseekers to see all mainline train, underground, DLR and tram stops within a mile of jobs posted with a full postcode while bus routes will be added in the near future.

John Salt said: “Our research shows that the location of a job is one of the single most important factors for jobseekers. This new facility will enable users to quickly pin point how easy it would be to reach their prospective new employer for an interview and during their day to day commute should they be successful in getting the job. Transport links only appear when a recruiter posts a job with a full postcode in the details, so not only will jobseekers be sure of where the job is, but also how to get there. We anticipate that for these recruiters, totaljobs.com will be able to deliver even better matched candidates to jobs in the future.”

Job Mapping
This innovation allows job search results to appear on a map for jobseekers. The tool, which was added to the site’s existing sector and region search, was developed to allow a recruiter to have a job ad assigned to a unique pin on the map. This gives great visibility to jobs being advertised, especially to those that have been posted with a full UK postcode, making it stand out even more and attract even more relevant candidates.

John Salt said: “This app reiterates our commitment to providing recruiters with the best service in the industry. We have listened to what they are looking for and made significant improvements, for example, by partnering exclusively with Google maps to help drive the app, we can ensure a good functionality and speed for users.”
