North West based recruitment agency The Business Connection has raised concerns that not enough recruitment agencies are making themselves aware of the effects that the Agency Workerís Directive (AWD) could have.

There has already been extensive discussion within the industry about the AWD, which aims to protect agency workers by giving temporary workers the same employment rights as permanent staff, yet The Business Connection believes that many agencies are suffering by not finding out more about this directive.

Kirsty Craig, CEO of The Business Connection and Managing Director of TEAM, says: ìIt seems that many recruitment agencies still have their heads stuck in the sand about the AWD and the effects it could have. In order to offer the best possible service for clients and their staff, agencies should be finding out as much as they possibly can about this about this proposed directive and be involved at every part of the consultation process despite the fact that it is now coming to an end.î

She adds: ìIt is crucial that agencies are feeding back information on the AWD to their clients as it could have a huge effect on their employees, systems and staffing policies. The ëostrich syndromeí that seems to have pervaded the industry on this topic is not going to help anyone in the long run and by finding out more on it they can offer an even better, more-informed service to their clients.î
