Not all employers are paying enough attention when it comes to outsourcing their recruitment, says a leading graduate specialist, who believes that many firms are still picking their suppliers almost at random.
ëIf you were having new premises built, you would choose your builders wisely and forge a strong relationship with them,í said Jonathan Evans, of Discovery Recruitment. ëIf you had a new product and needed a distributor youíd do the same. Yet when it comes to building a team of people it seems that some firms are happy to pick a supplier at random and accept lacklustre service from them.í
Supply chain integrity is even more vital in recruitment than anywhere else, he said. ëYour building might crumble, but a good team of hand-picked people can work anywhere.í
Summer is traditionally a quieter time for personnel departments, and itís a good time to think about selecting a recruitment agency, suggested Evans.
His own company specialises in hand-picking, training and supporting its graduates so they can be matched as much for personality and approach as for degree score and UCAS points. Similarly, he believes in building strong relationships with clients. ëWe get to know a company so that we can understand exactly what sort of person they are looking for,í he said. ëAnd weíre their agency of choice because they know that our graduates are specifically selected, and well prepared.í
