Test yourself with Monster and SHL

Monster.co.uk and SHL offer free online ability practice tests

Monster.co.uk, one of the UKís careers website, and SHL, the company in objective assessment, are working together to give candidates free practice versions of the most widely used ability tests in UK recruitment. Candidates will receive a free personalised report detailing their results. This service complements the existing tips on how to apply for jobs, hone CVs and perform well at interview available on the Monster.co.uk site.

Ability tests are now routinely used in recruitment for a wide range of roles. They most commonly include tests of verbal and numerical reasoning - a candidateís ability to use information in the form of words and numbers. Whilst these tests are designed to test general mental ability rather than specific language or arithmetic skills, they can be challenging and many people are nervous about taking them. Research has shown that candidates do better when they are more relaxed and taking practice tests is a good way for candidates to familiarise themselves with the assessment and reduce anxiety.

At Monster we are always looking at ways to help our jobseekers by giving them tools and advice on our dedicated careers site, said Alan Townsend, Regional Managing Director for UK and Ireland. The new SHL ability tests posted on Monster.co.uk give candidates the chance to see how they rate on core abilities demanded by many employers. These tests could help candidates identify, and give them confidence to apply for, the roles that best suit their own levels of ability.

Professor Dave Bartram of SHL commented, It is important that candidates are given the best chance to perform to their potential in these assessments. By working with Monster, we hope to give as many candidates as possible the opportunity to practice taking the sort of ability tests they could face during a recruitment process. Many of our practice tests are now available online, making it easy to access them at home, or from a university or college IT facility, or even an Internet caf. It is important for candidates to become familiar both with the type of questions they will be asked and with the general process of taking these sort of tests.

Candidates can access SHL practice tests on Monsterís website by going to www.monster.co.uk/assessment and selecting the ability test theyíd like to practice. They will be transferred to SHLís secure assessment site where full instructions will be given, just as they would in a real recruitment situation.

Within a few minutes of completing the test a free feedback report will be available on the SHL site, detailing not only a candidateís score but tips for improving performance.
