I donít need to tell you that it has been a roller coaster ride lately. Between the stock market swings, the credit crunch and the darkening clouds in the economy, I think we are all waiting for the next shoe to drop. Well, Onrec gives me this space every month to get up on a soapbox and take a 30,000 ft look at our industry. Let me explain why I am optimistic for our future.

First, we just elected a new President and the nation clearly is ready to move in a new direction. That alone gets me very excited. I canít help but think about the parallels in the online recruiting industry. There is clearly a new direction happening in our field and in the overall American economy. The only way we are going to move forward and grow is to be innovative and increase productivity.

What does that mean for the recruitment process? I think it means acceleration in our adoption of online recruiting tools and rapid evolution of the technologies that help find talent faster, better and less expensively. Sure, there is bound to be less hiring in the USA with the current state of the economy, but thereís still a tactical war for top talent going on.

Some industries are feeling the pinch harder than others. We are hearing that in health care, bio tech, IT, several business services like accounting, and certain geographic areas, the marketplace is having challenges recruiting the ìrightî talent. Smart online recruiting solutions will quickly move to capitalize on this need, and they will come out stronger on the other end of this economic cycle.

I challenge you to be optimistic and opportunistic. We are in one of the most inventive industries in the global economy. We are helping to solve the most critical challenge to business today – recruiting the right team. Online recruiting is the disruptive force that will continue to add productivity to this function.

I am certain that when we gather together next November 3-4, 2009 in Chicago for the Global Online Recruiting Conference and Expo www.Onrec.com/Expo2009 one of the main points of discussion will be what an opportunity this was for growing market share.

ìYes we can.î
