RWE npower is one of the UK's Top 50 employers for women, according to the latest list published by Aurora - the business women's diversity network.
'The Top 50 Places Where Women Want To Work', in conjunction with The Times, provides insightful information about 50 of the UK's largest and most progressive employers.
To make it into the Top 50 organisations have to prove themselves in five key areas: the opportunities that they provide women; having progressive, transparent cultures; an ability to celebrate diversity; an eagerness to embrace new technology to facilitate work-life balance; and a commitment to being socially responsible.
RWE npower recognises that job satisfaction is no longer based solely on location and money. Many other factors are becoming increasing important when researching and comparing organisations, particularly in women's minds.
The company therefore runs an active diversity and inclusion programme to help retain and attract talented people. In 2006 alone, diversity training was rolled out to 1,800 line managers and all 12,000 staff was given access to the subject. Because of this approach, RWE npower believes it is one of the most inclusive businesses of its size in the UK, with 40% of its total workforce being female. An impressive 27 women fill positions in the top management tiers and 1,025 are in management and team leader roles.
In addition, RWE npower promotes flexible working and runs a wellbeing programme to encourage employees to think about health management as part of their daily routine, ranging from sensible working hours through to exercise and diet. Over 1,000 of their managers have also attended stress workshops, so that they can perform team-based risk assessments and assist any colleagues who may be suffering.
Nick Smith, RWE npower's head of diversity and inclusion, commented: We're delighted to make it into The Top 50 and its fantastic recognition of our work at all levels of the organisation to ensure equal opportunities for all.
