Recruitment goes digital at Avanade

IT consultancy uses MP3 players with a personalised message to attract highly-skilled recruits

Avanade UK, a business technology services provider, has launched a unique recruitment initiative, using Zune MP3 players with a personalised message to target highly skilled IT professionals.

The consultancy is recruiting for individuals with advanced skills in Microsoft Office SharePoint Server to join its team. With a small target list of recruits, the HR team created a bespoke plan to reach out to the shortlist of potential candidates rather than turn to headhunters.

Each person has been sent a Zune player with a video podcast featuring a personalised message from Ian Jordan, Avanadeís UK managing director. The minute-long videos introduce Avanade and explain to each person why they would be a good fit for the team, with a view to inviting candidates to an interview for the vacant roles.

ìWith such a specific recruitment need, we had to think outside the box to find the best way to target the small pool of potential recruits,î said Andy Spicer, head of recruitment at Avanade UK. ìWe are giving each person the gift of the Zune player, complete with a message that shows we have done our research and know they have the right skills and experience for the role. We are confident that weíll not only find the right people for Avanade now, but also build positive relationships with talented individuals who might work with us in the future, or join for specific projects.î
