REC welcomes Government plans to shape future of social care system

The Recruitment and Employment Confederation (REC) has welcomed changes put forward by the Government for the social care system in its new consultation paper ìShaping the Future of Care Together

The Recruitment and Employment Confederation (REC) has welcomed changes put forward by the Government for the social care system in its new consultation paper ìShaping the Future of Care Together.î

Under the new plans, the Government is proposing that a certain level of social care would be provided free to everyone, while accommodation costs are deferred. The current system means that anyone with a home or savings of 23,500 and over is not given any state-funding for their care.

Peter Cullimore, Chair of the REC Nursing and Social Care Sector Group, said of the proposals: We are delighted that the Government has at long last realised the current arrangement is unfair, and does not allow for the best of care to be accessible to all those who need it. We therefore welcome the Government's commitment to changing the current situation. REC Nursing and Social Care will be consulting its members on the proposals announced by Ministers and will present a formal submission to the consultation in due course.
