The Recruitment and Employment Confederation has announced details of its Agency Summit III, the flagship event during National Temporary Workers Week next month (June 1-5), which will focus exclusively on the EUís Agency Workers Directive.
The REC has led the debate on the Directive through its Agency Work Commission and also regular input from REC members that culminated in the presentation of its recommendations to Government in February on the best ways to implement the Directive.
Now with the recent launch of the Governmentís AWD public consultation, the Summit will provide an ideal opportunity for the recruitment industry to unite in order to influence the final outcome and prepare for the subsequent changes it will bring.
The Summit will be addressed by keynote speakers including Kevin Green, the RECís Chief Executive and Chair of the Agency Workers Commission, and John Cridland, Deputy Director-General of the CBI.
Kevin Green said of the Summit: ìThe stakes have never been higher for business, the 22 billion temporary, interim and contract workers market and the entire UK employment landscape.
ìIt is imperative to ensure the proposed equal treatment measures at the heart of the Directive do not reduce employment opportunities in the UK. We need to focus on the practicalities of implementation so that the Directive does not unleash a regulatory wrecking ball through the UKís jobs market.
Kevin Green added: ìProfessional recruiters must continue to lead the debate so that the industryís voice is at the forefront. The Summit will offer a platform for discussions on what the Governmentís consultation will mean in practice and for agencies to share their views.î
The Summit is being staged on Thursday June 4 at the East Wintergardens in Canary Wharf, London. The event will provide members with information on how equal treatment might work in practice as well as an opportunity for feeding into the industry's official response.
