Peterborough City Council is investing 250,000 in a new human resources and payroll software package which, it is estimated, will pay for itself in efficiency and effectiveness improvements over the next five years.
When it becomes fully operational in April 2006 it will replace an OpenDoor package supplied in 1996 by Rebus Software, which was acquired by Northgate in January 2004.
Chris Savory, Director of Strategic Resources with Peterborough City Council, said: ìThe ResourceLink package is a proven system and will be a key component in the City Councilís efficiency and effectiveness programme. We expect it to contribute to significant savings in personnel costs across the council, while improving the quality of management information and enhancing the level of customer service.î
Northgate HRís managing director Malcolm Aldis added: ìWe are thrilled to be continuing our association with Peterborough City Council and that ResourceLink was recommended by independent consultants as the best solution.î
ResourceLink will be fully compatible with the City Councilís other management functions ñ such as finance, e-procurement and customer call centre ñ which operate within an Oracle-based Unix environment.
Once the ResourceLink package is operational it will manage the City Councilís entire human resources function for its 5,250 employees from recruitment, training and career development through to pension and retirement.
The City Council envisage the cost savings through improved business processes delivered by e-HR (HR services delivered electronically). A password-protected, on-line facility called MyView will enable City Council employees to request holidays, submit expenses and update their own personal records ñ such as when they move house or change bank account details.
The ResourceLink package is the flagship human resources and payroll management product of Peterborough-based Northgate HR and is already used by major companies with up to 100,000 employees.
