Panda Software has launched the beta version of TotalScan, an online malware scanner able to detect all types of threats on usersí PCs. The prime feature of TotalScan is its exceptional detection capacity: it currently detects more than 700,000 viruses, spyware, Trojans and other types of threats. And this figure is increasing at a rate of around 2,000 per day thanks to its continuous updates. It also detects unknown threats thanks to the TruPreventTM intelligent technologies.
The new Panda Software tool detects both threats that are active on the computer, as well as those that remain latent but could activate at any time. TotalScan also disinfects the threats detected.
TotalScan has three types of scans:
- Quick (about five minutes): it scans the critical zones of the computer where threats often hide.
- Full: scans the entire computer for malware.
- Custom: scans the components selected by the user, such as the memory, specific folders, email, etc.
TotalScan is a valuable tool as a second opinion about computer security, as it can detect threats that have slipped past standard security systems. In fact, during the trial phase of TotalScan, malware was detected in more than 50% of systems scanned.
No software is required on the PC when using TotalScan, as this is an online malware scanner that works from the Internet browser using ActiveX technology.
TotalScanís huge detection capacity is due to the ëAnti-malware Collective Intelligenceí approach based on three elements:
1. Collection of data from the Web community. The system centrally collects and stores behavioural patterns of programs, file traces, new malware samples, etc. This data comes from Panda users, and from other companies and collaborators. This extensive capacity to collect information provides greater visibility of active Internet threats.
2. Automatic leverage of data. The system automatically analyzes and classifies the thousands of new samples received every day. To do this, an expert system correlates the data received from the community with PandaLabsí extensive malware knowledge base. The system automatically returns verdicts (malware or goodware) on the new files received, thereby drastically reducing the manual workload at PandaLabs.
3. Making the knowledge available. This knowledge is delivered to users as Web services or through signature file updates.
Thanks to this new approach, TotalScan is capable of detecting even malware samples that slipped past other antivirus solutions, and are active carrying out malicious actions on the computer.
