Onrec Online Recruitment Conference attendees encouraged to sign up as Lifesavers

1st October 2013 | London

Anthony Nolan has been chosen as the official charity for the Onrec Conference and Exhibition 2013 and is asking readers to sign up as potential lifesavers.

Anthony Nolan recruits bone marrow (or stem cell) donors and matches them to blood cancer patients in desperate need of a bone marrow transplant.

Lila Dowie, Senior Corporate Partnerships Manager at Anthony Nolan, says, ‘A bone marrow transplant is usually the last chance at survival for someone with blood cancer. We need to find a specific match for a successful transplant, which means we need more people to sign up as bone marrow donors. Anthony Nolan and Onrec welcome anyone from the recruitment industry and beyond to attend the free exhibition and sign up as a potential lifesaver.’

Onrec associates and guests aged 16-30 will be invited to join the register at the Onrec on 1st October at The Grange City Hotel, EC3N 2BQ. Individual jobseekers, recruitment consultants, professionals and agencies can join the Anthony Nolan register by simply filling in a short form and providing a saliva sample. If a potential donor is found to be a match for someone with blood cancer, in 90% of cases the donation procedure is similar to giving blood.

Anthony Nolan have already received £250 from a percentage of conference tickets sales throughout August as part of the partnership as well as a complimentary stand at the conference giving attendees the chance to join the bone marrow register in person.

Lila adds, ‘It costs the charity around £100 to recruit each potential donor to the bone marrow register. The more people we are able to recruit, the more matches we can make, and the more lives we can save. This means that the support from Onrec and their readers really will help us save lives.

David Hurst, CEO of Onrec.com says, ‘We are delighted to have Anthony Nolan as our conference charity. The charity’s impressive ability to match donors to people needing transplants has great synergy with the online recruitment industry, matching candidates to jobs.’
