Pension fund trustees governing investment funds of over 300 billion will come to the heart of the city for the first ever TUC conference to be held at the London Stock Exchange next month (Friday 17 June). Trustees will hear from the new Pensions Minister Stephen Timms MP and have an opportunity to raise their concerns directly with him at the groundbreaking conference.

The full programme of íPensions at the crossroads: Directions for trusteesí, announced today (Friday) features workshops and other speakers including Will Hutton, Work Foundation Chief Executive, Alan Duncan, Pension Protection Fund Director of Operations, John Kingman, from the Treasury and Brendan Barber, TUC General Secretary (full list below).

The conference for the TUC Member Trustee Network will tackle major pensions issues for trustees in the morning and investment issues in the afternoon. At the conference the TUC will also publish its annual Fund Manager Survey, which has asked 50 major investors how they voted on 50 issues at company AGMs last year, including executive pay policies at Sainsburys, Next, Compass, WH Smith and Jarvis.

TUC General Secretary Brendan Barber said:

Pension fund trustees look after hundreds of billions worth of investment capital so the TUC is bringing their issues to the heart of the City. Trustees face having to make tough decisions about the future of their scheme on behalf of their members. Our job is to help equip them with the confidence to ask the right questions of employers and their advisors and move the scheme in the right direction for members.

The Stock Exchange event will also encourage trustees to keep a close eye on the governance of companies their fund invests in and they way their fund managers engage with those companies. The TUC Fund Manager Survey is a vital tool in this regard, giving valuable information to trustees.
