The Institute of Practitioners in Advertising (IPA) has just launched its new careers microsite aimed at graduates interested in a career in the advertising industry, which offers invaluable advice about advertising and how to be a part of it.
Says Lettie Hannon, Associate Director of Resources, IPA, ìAccording to the latest IPA Census, taken on 1st September 2008, 786 graduates were recruited into the industry during the previous year. Furthermore, figures from a straw poll taken of IPA members at the beginning of this year indicate that although graduate recruit-ment will be slightly down on last year due to the recession, agencies still intend to recruit graduates in 2009. It is therefore imperative that we have a resource that can answer all advertising-related questions that potential industry recruits may have, and make them aware of all agency employment opportunities out there, which we believe our new careers site will achieve.î
Says Liz Nottingham, Group HR Director, Starcom MediaVest and Chairman of the IPAís People Management Group, ìWhile it is inevitable that graduate recruitment may not be as high this year, IPA members should be mindful that graduate talent is the lifeblood and source of fresh thinking for our industry. We should use the downturn to our advantage – creativity, pace of change and opportunity, to attract highly talented graduates who are very positive about joining our industry. I therefore not only urge students to use the IPAís new careers site, but I also urge agencies to continue to invest in graduate talent and to use this new portal to advertise their employment opportunities and advice.î
Sections of the new careers portal - www.ipa.co.uk/DisplayContent.aspx?ID=1623 - include:
