Simon Dolph has today been confirmed as the new director of marketing and communications at the Chartered Management Institute (CMI).

Simon joins the Institute from TNT Post, the UK postal subsidiary of TNT NV, where he had been director of marketing and communications, since 2004. In his new role, which Simon starts in April this year, he will be responsible for driving debate about the quality and nature of management and leadership in the UK. Simon will also be tasked with raising the profile of the CMI, through the creation of a national Ambassador Programme.

Focusing on raising the profile of management and leadership and positioning the Institute as the first port of call on these issues, Simon will be responsible for fostering partnerships and networks that extend the CMIís sphere of influence. He will also drive communications focusing on the Instituteís upcoming research and policy agenda.

With over 25 years experience across a range of industry sectors, Simon brings extensive knowledge and experience to the Chartered Management Institute. In his role as director of marketing and communications at TNT Post, he developed and introduced the brandís identity as well as establishing PR as the main profile and reputation building channel.

Prior to his 5 years at TNT, Simon was director of The Hamilton Partnership Ltd, where he provided a marketing management capability and consultancy service to a range of organisations including, Britannia Building Society, CitiBank and the NHS. In this role, Simon developed and established branding, partnership programmes and marketing campaigns. He has also worked for HSBC and its Asian subsidiary, the Hong Kong and Shanghai Bank.
In his new role at the CMI, Simon will head a 15 strong team and report to the chief executive, Ruth Spellman, OBE.

Ruth Spellman says: ìWe are absolutely delighted to welcome Simon to the Institute. His knowledge of management and leadership coupled with his experience of brand and marketing development will be of great value. Simonís proven track record of success in highly competitive sectors will stand him in great stead for raising the profile of the Institute and fostering networks.î

Simon Dolph says: ìIn a turbulent economic climate, management and leadership capabilities are absolutely key to organisations remaining strong and becoming stronger. Successful businesses understand the issues involved, implement necessary change with determination and discipline and adapt without forsaking their values. Excuses shouldnít be made for mis-management, and the chance to tackle and solve some key leadership issues is something I am looking forward to immensely.î
