A top north agency has been selected by an influential Chinese delegation to demonstrate its on-line recruitment expertise for the world’s fastest-growing economy.

Pearsons, which employs 100 staff operating from offices in Middlesbrough and Leeds, hosted a delegation representing the Chinese government.

Recruitment is of crucial importance to the booming Chinese economy, with business leaders liasing with a multitude of governmental ministries.

Pearsons is one of the UK’s top public sector recruitment agencies, attracting applications from jobseekers around the world and working closely with UK government agencies, local authorities and the health service.

Chief executive Simon Pearson, said: The UK is the world’s fourth largest economy and we are recognised as playing a significant part in its recent growth by our recruitment expertise.

We have also experienced continued growth in line with the substantial investment and development of our business, which includes public sector recruitment via our on-line service, www.sector1.net.

This on-line division of the recruitment sector of our business generates more than three million page impressions each month, with more than 2,000 jobs displayed at any time. It’s growing rapidly and this is the scale of operation that the Chinese are keen to keep pace with as the growth of their economy accelerates.

Simon added: It was extremely rewarding to get the recognition to share our expertise with them and we would relish the opportunity to work with the Chinese on a professional basis in the future.

We consider that Pearsons and the Chinese economy are developing and expanding in an exciting way, and there may well be areas in which we can complement each other.

The delegates, who visited Pearsons’ Middlesbrough office in Cleveland Business Centre, all hold senior positions within the Chinese government’s Ministry of Personnel and Ministry of Labour and are responsible for half of all the country’s civil service recruitment.

Pearsons is the largest recruitment and marketing agency in the north of England with a 26 million turnover and ambitious plans for future expansion.

The company has invested heavily in many aspects of the business, including its online recruitment operation, which boasts a total-package response management service for employers and the active promotion of the region as one of the UK’s most attractive areas for recruitment.

The visit was organised by the North East Regional Employers’ Organisation (NEREO) and forms part of the China-Europe Public Administration Programme (CEPA), which is funded by the EC, its member states and the Chinese government.

Visit co-ordinator Anne Harrison, said: I was very impressed with what I saw at Pearsons and would like to thank everyone involved for being so welcoming, and helping make the event the success that it was.
