Jobseekers Gearing Up for UKís Busiest Day of Year For Job Hunting

Annual Phenomenon to Hit Peak at 12.38pm, Tuesday 11 January 2011

The surge of people looking for a new job will reach its annual peak today (Tuesday 11 January, 2011) when jobseekers make good on New Year resolutions to find or change employers – it is predicted that 12.38pm will be the busiest moment of the entire year for job searches.

MyJobGroup.co.uk (www.MyJobGroup.co.uk <http://www.MyJobGroup.co.uk> ), which boasts over 300 regional jobsites across the UK, has analysed peaks and troughs from six years’ web traffic and has predicted Tuesday as being the busiest day of 2011.

Traditionally, the first Tuesday back after the New Year is the busiest, but with so many people delaying the return to work because of the record-breaking ice and snow, job searches have been rising every day in 2011 and it is predicted to peak a week later than normal this year.

The company’s analysis of six years’ data shows that, post-New Year, Tuesday lunchtimes are the most popular periods, with the 15-minute window just after 12.30pm showing the absolute peak slot as workers combine the start of their lunch break with an online job search.

However, with the UK in the grip of the coldest winter for 50 years – and many workers unable or unwilling to get to get back to the office – thoughts of job hunting and career changes have been put back a week.

Mark Riley, Marketing Manager of MyJobGroup.co.uk, said: “Our busiest day has traditionally been the first Tuesday back in the office after January 1st.

“However, the unprecedented cold weather across the UK means we’ve seen a slower build up this year, but every weekday has been busier than the last and we’re expecting the absolute peak to be January 11.

“With many either simply happy to be in employment, or forced to stay put in 2010 due to the recession, we’re expecting this year to be our busiest yet as the economy improves and more people start looking for new roles.”

The online business believes 2011 will see a far busier jobs market for businesses and jobseekers alike than the previous two years as the UK exits recession.
