With the publication of the latest labour market statistics from the Office for National Statistics, James Reed, Chairman of specialist recruiter, REED, comments:

“The UK jobs market remains strong as we head into the spring. The latest figures from REED show the number of people taking new jobs in January is up 14% on the fourth quarter of 2012. This is an encouraging sign that businesses are gaining confidence to take on new roles, with the number of interviews in January up 11% on the previous month.

“There are also positive signs in the temporary jobs market, with placements in January 2013 up 6% on the same time last year showing that businesses are keen to grow.

“The reed.co.uk Job Index also shows the UK jobs market has grown for the third successive year – now 32% more positions on offer than in 2010. This positive trend is apparent across a significant majority of sectors, with 76% growing month on month and 91% stronger than they were in January 2012.

“A buoyant jobs market is a good indicator of business confidence. Our market insight shows that businesses are investing in talent and creating more opportunities for UK workers.”
