Beyond.com, Inc., the niche career network for business professionals, surveyed members across its network of more than 11,000 niche websites to examine commuter practices of business professionals.
Members were asked, ìHow long is/was your commute to work for your most recent job?î More than 4,400 Beyond.com Network members responded and it was discovered that more than 73 percent of business professionals travel 25 miles or less to work. Less than 17 percent of those surveyed commute 25 to 40 miles to the office, and a little more than 10 percent commute more than 40 miles one way.
ìItís clear that many business professionals are choosing local companies in order to reduce travel costs and maintain a healthy work-life balance,î said Rich Milgram, CEO of Beyond.com, Inc. ìCommute time alone, can impact time spent with family and after-work activities, making it an important factor when evaluating a new job.î
When searching for a new job or making that next career change, job seekers can incorporate local niche websites into their search that are geared towards providing resources and business opportunities within local areas or industries of interest. Many sites allow users to define their search by zip code, area code or city. Other options include:
Continuing to build a network of local contacts
Searching for positions in the local or association newspapers
Attending local career fairs
Considering the use of a resume distribution service to target employers close to home.
Itís all about ìLocation, Location, Locationî
