International talent makes up for Brit ëbrain drainí

.

Despite research from the Office for National Statistics which showed that a record number of Britons left the UK last year ñ and a report from the World Bank suggesting we have the biggest brain drain in the Western World, the UK is continuing to thrive because of the influx of business and management professionals from Australia, New Zealand and South Africa. Thatís the opinion of Steve Carter, Managing Director of specialist finance recruiter Nigel Lynn:

ìLondon has now overtaken New York as the number one global finance centre, attracting many highly skilled workers to the UK. We have to accept that we live in a global market and although Brits may be lost to other countries, the UK has benefited greatly from the expertise of inbound talentî he says. ìSeveral hundred thousand international professionals arrive in London each year and many stay permanently. The UK may have a perceived ìbrain drainî but in truth the economy is richer for the diversity it possesses.î

With more and more Brits seeking better employment abroad and looking to escape our high prices and inadequate transport, many have been concerned that the UK will suffer, but it seems that this is not the case. ìThere has always been a stream of Brits moving abroad and after such a lousy summer who can blame themî adds Carter. ìBut as the world benefits from UK talent, the UK benefits from the world.î
