An initiative has been launched in the Staffordshire town of Cannock that
is aiming to give people the skills they need to apply for jobs online.
With online recruitment now commonly
the first option for employers seeking candidates to fill positions, the
employment skills organisation Pertemps People Development Group (PPDG) has set
up an American-style motor home in the town providing people with information
on how to develop their information technology skills.
PPDG's big blue Winnebago has been parked in the town centre this week and is
kitted out not just with information packs, but with some of the latest
learning equipment to allow people to test their skills on site.
The bus is also being staffed by experts in the field of employment skills and
training from the local branch of PPDG, who will be on hand to offer
face-to-face advice to people who want to know more about how to succeed in the
online recruitment process.
The initiative is being run in partnership with www.myguide.gov.uk, the government-run
website has been set up to help introduce people to basic computer skills and
the internet. It offers a range of simple courses from the basics of getting
started on a computer to using email and understanding how to shop
online.
