Last week, PR Manager at Hays conquered the worldís highest free-standing mountain for Marie Curie Cancer Care. Sarah Swailes, based in London, climbed the 5895 metre peak in South Africa over six days, facing temperatures as low as –20 and oxygen levels below 50%.
The 27 year old smashed her 3,500 target for the charity, raising a total of 5000 including matched funds from Hays. Marie Curie provides free nursing care to cancer patients and Sarahís efforts alone have paid for two hours work from every Marie Curie nurse nationwide.
Sarah comments: ìThe climb was tough at points but incredibly rewarding. It is impossible to know how the severe altitude will affect you but with the support of the group you just aim to soldier on! The cause itself was all the encouragement needed to get myself to the summit.î
