GTI Media and CASCAiD, with a combined total of more than 65 years’ experience of careers information and guidance, have launched today the largest survey of school and college students in the UK: the trendence School Leaver Barometer. The survey has been built and designed by international research firm trendence, who have conducted a similar survey in German schools for over a decade.

Although the graduate careers and recruitment market is well served with survey information revealing students’ job aspirations and employer choices, it’s fair to say that the career intentions and experiences of school/college students are less well known. Many major employers of graduates are currently looking more seriously at recruiting school leavers, especially as increased university fees may persuade some students not to go on to higher education. This new survey research will provide employers and universities with information to help shape their attraction and recruitment campaigns.

The trendence School Leaver Barometer will survey around 10,000 school/college students from now until the end of March and the findings will be available to employers, universities and the Government in Summer 2014. The survey explores students’ experience of careers guidance and information, access to employers, career plans and their choice of job, employer, apprenticeship or university.

Graham Storey, CEO of GTI Media said: “GTI Media is thrilled to be working with CASCAiD to launch the trendence School Leaver Barometer, the UK’s largest careers survey of school and college students. It’s clear that recruiters from all sectors are desperate for more information about the thoughts, career plans and employer awareness of the current generation of school students, as more of them invest in apprenticeships and school leaver programmes alongside their graduate recruitment activity.”

Richard Harrison, Chief Executive of CASCAiD said, “I am very pleased about our involvement in the national school leavers’ survey undertaken by trendence. The results will provide a barometer of young people’s ideas and aspirations, as well as giving employers and advisers an insightful knowledge for engaging with young people about their future. We will be working closely with GTI Media to ensure that we successfully deliver this survey to as many students as possible.”
