Following analysis of almost 2000 advertised roles throughout the UK, IT Recruitment Consultancy CV Screen reports that the average salary for an IT Graduate is 21,784.
The analysis identifies that IT Graduates seeking a career in Software / Web Development can expect a higher salary (22,092) than those who pursue a career in technical support (19,971).
Managing Director of CV Screen Matthew Iveson commented, ìThere is as expected strong demand for skilled IT Graduates at this time of year and especially those with some commercial experience. We are increasingly finding that employers will specify a preference for candidates who have experienced a year out in industry during their degree course.î
Iveson added, ìCertainly demand and salaries for IT Graduates is highest in London, however, the high cost of living in the Capital can make it difficult for Graduates to reduce their level of debt.î
CV Screen also noted that Graduates with IT skills and a second language are also in demand as are candidates with .Net, or PHP or ASP skills. Iveson commented ìDespite the recent trend towards offshoring that threatens the IT industry, we are still experiencing strong demand for Development skills and technologies such as .Net, PHP and ASP continue to be sought after.î
Iveson concluded, ìOur advice to those candidates who may be beginning or in the middle of their degree is to try and gain some relevant work experience, either through a placement year or indeed during their University vacations. Those candidates who have experience in a commercial environment are certainly more attractive to employers as their learning curve is often much shallower than those who have not had work experience.î
