With over 120 of the UK’s top engineering employers advertising at any one time, Gradcracker.com, the careers website for engineering and technology students, has opened up their website for employers looking for experienced engineers. This is a temporary arrangement and is in response to the announcement of the redundancies at BAE Systems.
Sophie Cottam, Head of Communications at Gradcracker, said.
“Graduate employers on gradcracker.com include Arup, National Grid, Tata Steel, Cummins, Rolls-Royce and Mott MacDonald. Many of these companies also have opportunities for experienced engineers and, in light of the redundancies at BAE Systems, we have for the first time asked them to post these vacancies on Gradcracker.”
Normally, Gradcracker charges companies to advertise on their site, but in this case they are allowing their employers to advertise their vacancies for experienced engineers free of charge because they want to help retain the skills of the BAE Systems’ engineers within the UK’s manufacturing sector.
Sophie Cottam said. “We knew that our employers had hundreds of vacancies and we felt that it was important to highlight this fact to the workers who are facing redundancy. Some of the opportunities they will find on Gradcracker may not exactly match their existing skill set but many of our employers are keen to hear from good candidates whose skills may be transferable after training.”
“We are preparing leaflets for BAE Systems to hand out at affected factories and we are exploring the feasibility of arranging careers fairs with our employers at BAE Systems’ sites.”
