He may be having his own kitchen nightmares on TV, but to many of his contemporaries, heís a dream.
According to new research from leading hospitality website caterer.com, Gordon Ramsay is the most admired celebrity chef, with one in four respondents inspired by his style.
School dinners champion and all round entrepreneur Jamie Oliver came a close second, with one in five chefs admiring his culinary skills. He was especially popular with younger chefs, with 84 per cent of chefs under 30 years old rating him. Gary Rhodes came third in the poll.
Gordon Ramsay said: Iím very flattered by this. The secret behind success and longevity in this industry is vision, understanding and balance, and an unswerving determination to succeed. But most important above all is the right people, without whom I would not be where I am now.
The survey also examined why chefs are inspired to enter the kitchen. For 21 per cent it was a love of food, while one in five are fulfilling a childhood ambition. The ability to combine travel and work is also seen as a perk for 16 per cent of respondents.
Simon Taylorson, sales director for Caterer.com, added: Chefís who have become celebrities play an important role in inspiring the next generation. We hope that this research will encourage more people who have the skills and the talent to consider a career as a chef.
