Despite current legislation to drive out age discrimination in the workplace, latest figures from the Office for National Statistics show that the over 50s are losing jobs at a far faster rate than their younger colleagues. Unemployment figures for those aged over 50 rose by 27% in the last quarter compared to just 8% for workers under 50, yet the government has done nothing to redress the balance in its recent 500m plan to ease unemployment.
