The UK China Graduate Work Experience Programme initiated by the Department for Innovation, University and Skills (DIUS) and managed by GTI Recruiting Solutions is celebrating its fourth intake.
The Programme aims to give Chinese graduates a greater understanding of the UK, its culture, people, society and way of life. Interns develop an enduring bond between the UK and China, helping secure future mutual economic benefit when these graduates become tomorrowís business leaders.
GTI Recruiting Solutions flew to China to interview over 200 pre-selected candidates. After a rigorous selection process, 33 high-flyer Chinese graduates have been recruited into 11 different companies, including Diageo, GAAPS, Nomura International and Rolls Royce. The interns are placed in full-time paid work placements for 12 to 50 weeks.
The Chinese graduates have enjoyed an orientation programme at Brunel University to adjust to their life in the UK. GTI Recruiting Solutions welcomed them at a drinks reception at London Zoo to celebrate the fourth intake of the Programme. Also present were representatives of DIUS, the Embassy of P.R China, the China-Britain Business Council, employers and interns from the previous intake.
ëWe are delighted to be part of the UK China Graduate Work Experience Programme. As recruiters ourselves, we usually recruit directly, but this Programme offers a different angle and enables us to reach high-calibre candidates who are traditionally difficult to get a hold of. The experience from an employer point of view has been effortless and we are very enthusiastic about having Li Zhi in our team.í Jane Weddell, Office Manager at GAAPS Actuarial
Yu Zhao, newly arrived graduate:ëI canít wait to discover life in the UK. The application process was long, but this Programme is really worth it. It is very famous in China and it is a privilege to be part of this scheme. Everyone has been so helpful to us and this experience will be very important for my career.í
GTI Recruiting Solutions provides the interns with pastoral support on issues such as travel and accommodation as well as screening and organising visas, making it easy for employers too. The Programme has become reciprocal this year so UK graduates with Chinese language skills can now have the great opportunity to work in China for up to a year.
