The Financial Times and Terra Firma Associates have undertaken a unique piece of research to understand FT readers’ perceptions of the International Public Sector.


The survey offers a rare insight into the views of the FT’s highly educated and qualified audience about this unique sector. This will enable organisations to gauge perceptions of their standing and reputation in the market and to understand the motivators for candidates when considering a possible career move.


Key findings include the decisional drivers such as the importance of a sense of purpose when considering work in the public sector (50%) and a willingness to relocate for the right job and the right employer (84%). As expected, salary remains one of the top decisional drivers. However, other top drivers are the nature of the role and the reputation of the employer – which offer important levers for International Public Sector recruiters.


The survey also provides solid evidence-based findings which can help the recruitment and communications departments at international banks, finance and professional services employers position their organisations as a global employer of choice.


Inspired by the survey’s findings, the Financial Times will publish a ‘Working in the International Public Sector” editorial feature in the Executive Appointments supplement on 10 December 2009
