Poundland, Europe’s biggest single price discount retailer, today announced that it is recruiting approximately 2,000 temporary colleagues to help with the busy Christmas period.
Jim McCarthy, CEO, said: “We need on average five or six extra colleagues in each store to help us cope with the busiest time of the year. The response so far has been fantastic; we’re looking for applicants with enthusiasm and determination, and people who are hard working to help deliver amazing value and service to our customers.”
There’s also good news for applicants who are taken on over the Christmas period, as almost 500 of last year’s seasonal colleagues went on to become permanent employees.
Poundland confirms it is now serving over 4 million customers every week; an increase from the reported 3.5 million in the last financial year (ending 27 March 2011) due to the strong new store opening programme and sales growth in acquiring stores. In the run up to Christmas, Poundland is expecting this number to increase even further to nearer 5 million, as shoppers make Christmas purchases and put amazing value at the forefront of their purchasing decisions.
