England football manager could enter international diplomacy

New survey shows recruitment experts believe Sven Goran Erikkson’s skills are best suited to international diplomacy and HR management

New survey shows recruitment experts believe Sven Goran Erikkson’s skills are best suited to international diplomacy and HR management (rather than chat show host!)

With World Cup frenzy underway, huge interest surrounds the successor to Sven’s job. But what will become of the current England coach?

In a survey conducted by Venture Finance, nearly a third (30 per cent) of UK recruitment specialists suggested Sven’s skills would be suited to international diplomacy. Furthermore, a quarter (24 per cent) think he would suit a role in HR management.

Interestingly, more men (27 per cent) than women (15 per cent) think Sven’s skills would be good for HR management. This is perhaps a reflection of the more realistic expectations of an HR role from women, as they dominate roles in this sector.

Nearly one in ten (9 per cent) of recruiters felt Sven would make a good chat show host - an interesting follow-up to his recent high profile media role. However, all of these respondents were men, with none of the women thinking he suited the chat show chair.

The same number (9 per cent) of recruiters thought Sven’s skills would be a good basis for a career as a life coach, perhaps a reflection of his high achieving career! Interestingly, life coaching rated higher amongst women as a good career move (19 per cent, compared to 5 per cent for men), and is the only role that women felt Sven would be more suited to than men.

Steve Websdale, director at Venture Finance commented on the survey’s findings and said: The UK’s recruitment sector can clearly see beyond Sven’s management skills on the pitch. Having had to act as the diplomat with the UK’s press and football’s ruling bodies, during many turbulent times, he’s demonstrated some of the skills that might be suited to international diplomacy. His team management skills are also clearly well suited to the world of HR.

Sven’s handling of the media might also place him well for a career on TV - something which has already put off one potential England Coach candidate, Brazillian Luiuz Felipe Scolari.

Venture Finance carried out this survey to assess the views of the recruitment sector. Venture works with a large number of recruitment firms to provide funding services that help manage cash flow. One key service is invoice finance, which is a cost effective and flexible form of funding that releases the value of unpaid invoices for immediate use.

While invoice discounting is particularly valuable to agencies paying temporary staff each week (before they are paid by their clients), it also provides financial stability to firms that place permanent staff and pay wages on a monthly basis.
