Employment down again

Employment rates are at their lowest since November 1996

Employment rates are at their lowest since November 1996.

Statistics released yesterday (Wednesday 17th) from the Office for National Statistics highlighted that the number of people in employment fell by 54,000 on the quarter ending in January 2010 to reach 28.86 million with all of those losses coming in full time positions.

Figures for people unemployed longer than a year have increased too. Sixty-one thousand more people have been unemployed for more than 12 months, reaching 687,000, the highest figure since August 1997.

However a motor trade recruitment company are attempting to beat these latest numbers by adding value to their service for both companies and candidates.

Ingenia Recruitment based in Washington, Tyne and Wear, are recruitment specialists solely for the motor trade in the North East of England.

The company are currently looking into ways to develop their brand identity and offer more value for money to their customers after a terrible year for both the motor and recruitment sectors in 2009.

Steve Shaw, director of Ingenia Recruitment said, “The recession has meant we have had to add value to our business for our clients. We have looked into how best to go about that and we have a few ideas on the horizon. However they are in their early stage so we are primarily experimenting for the time being.”

Nevertheless Ingenia believe they are already ahead of the pack. Shaw continued, “From a candidates perspective they just have to come in for an interview and we’ll deal with the rest. There is no fee attached for them, our service is highly confidential, personalised and we offer after placement support unlike any other recruitment company.

“From a company perspective we also offer up to four weeks payment free and guarantees that can stretch up to a year long.”

Oliver Pashley, 23, is working on Ingenia’s marketing communications and said, “In terms of communication we have already made ourselves more available to all of our stakeholders and are working hard on maintaining that.

“We already offer quite a comprehensive package but despite this we are looking to provide our customers with even more value to stay ahead of the competition.”
