Employersjobs Blog: Trust the Tortoise Over the Hare for Quality IT Candidates

This may sound like an unconventional way to parcel the general thinking behind a recruitment agency’s process, but it’s a good analogy to describe the approach of our latest partner agency in the IT recruitment sector. Offering a variety of positions, from Project Manager, Mobile Developer and Software Engineer, to more senior designations, including Head of Development, they cover diverse roles within the IT sector.

We were delighted to recently announce our partnership with Bright Talent Recruitment, an IT recruiter that challenges the typical point of view of other agencies in the same field. In the first part of our exclusive interview with Kevin Marron, Director at Bright Talent Recruitment, we got to grips with the company’s unique outlook and its clearly defined principles. “The way that we approach things is different to most because we’re not recruiters, we’re technology people”, says Kevin.

With an in-depth technical understanding of the IT industry constituting the core of the business, Kevin considers himself to first be an IT professional and then a recruiter. Having worked across various IT functions over the years, from development all the way through to being an experienced IT Manager and the Head of IT, Kevin knows how to get the job done efficiently and also what slant to take when things go wrong.

The idea for Bright Talent originally came to him when he realised the need for an IT recruiter that didn’t count on the “death by CVs” method when dealing with clients. Kevin explains, “Too often recruiters just send through numerous CVs, but when the companies receive them, in truth, the candidates don’t have all the skills they have put on their CV, and the recruiter has at no point met this person either.” To avoid this impulsive tactic, Bright Talent Recruitment instead supports the stance of the tortoise, stating, “We are not like the hare running around sending every client the same set of candidates, but more the tortoise, taking a little more time to validate experience, knowledge, and personality to present you with those talented candidates.”

Preferring to develop a level of trust with clients upfront, Kevin and his team stick to a process they have confidence in and one they know works. This includes checking every candidate’s IT knowledge and then their personal attributes through a set of comprehensive interviews,  and only once these boxes have been ticked will they put a candidate forward.

“Obviously that takes us a little bit longer than somebody who sends across numerous CVs, but we’re trying to run a quality operation and find who we believe are the best people for the job.” It’s via this route that Kevin maintains Bright Talent stand outs, as they are genuinely saving the employer time and making sure they deliver quality results.

The company also doesn’t solely go by a candidate’s certification on their CV. In-depth conversations about real-life work experience and key projects completed in the past must take place before a candidate can be given their stamp of approval.

This is how Bright Talent is building up its reputation as a company that places a great deal of emphasis on quality, as opposed to quantity. To date, they’ve provided clients with only a handful of candidates at a time (in some cases, just one), not because they couldn’t find anyone, but because there were only a few people who matched the requirements of the job exactly. Kevin tells us, “We spend a lot of time going through every candidate’s background, so that the people we put forward on a short list are individuals we would recruit.”

Dispelling the belief that recruitment needs to be done on the basis of volume, Bright Talent provides a refreshing, unique experience, making the most of that one shot they have to give employers what they’ve requested.

“We don’t shortcut it. We are here to make it easy for you and pass the right people across.”

Kevin’s words really sum up his vision for the company and his commitment to this promise, and we’re excited to work with Bright Talent and follow its future endeavours.
