Today, the Colourthon is pleased to announce that it is officially open for business online and fun walkers are encouraged to visit the website (www.colourthon.org) and register to walk in the 7th July event.
Unlike many other similar events, the Colourthon has a unique feature, as it allows you to take part and raise money for ANY registered charity of your own choice. This means that charities of any shape or size can benefit from this charity spectacular.
The Colourthon has undergone some exciting changes and now comprises of three fun and exciting events:
- Twilight (NEW) - new for 2012, the Colourthon has added an exciting new 10k event around Southend by night.
- Moonlight - the original and still the ultimate challenge, a half marathon walk around Southend by night.
- Sunlight Colourthon - an event primarily for the under 16s and anyone else who feels the longer events are not for them!
Since its inception in 2007, the event has gone from strength to strength and can now proudly boast that in this time it has been responsible for raising a total of £666k benefiting 525 different charities.
The Colourthon is all about having fun while doing your bit for a charity of your choice. Walkers are encouraged to wear bright and colourful clothes to illuminate Southend, and draw attention to the whole spectacle. Since inception, over five and a half thousand walkers have taken part and enjoyed the unique atmosphere of the Colourthon.
Lead organiser for the Colourthon, Julian Hart said. “The Colourthon just keeps going from strength to strength....it’s amazing, and the reaction from those who enter each year keep us motivated to come back, bigger and better! The Twilight Colourthon is our new event for 2012 and we are hoping this will attract those who are not up to challenge of the Moonlight event."
"We have a 5 year plan for the Colourthon and want to grow it to become the number one charity event in Essex, as well as hitting the £1million total raised milestone."
“You can apply online from today to walk in the event by visiting the official website www.colourthon.org. You can also find us on Facebook and Twitter. The website has undergone many exciting changes since last year, and for those who have walked before....you'll notice and be impressed by the difference!!"
“More than ever, charities need our help and financial support, so, we need the public to read this and want to get involved and take up the challenge. With such help, the Colourthon has the potential to really make a real difference to registered charities in the area.”
Walkers wishing to enter the Colourthon must nominate a registered charity who they will collect sponsorship money for. If they’re not sure who to walk for, the official event website may give them some inspiration.
