CIPD Spotlight on Managing through a Downturn Conference
11 March 2009, Manchester
17 March 2009, London
Organisations are to be given the chance to take the lead through the recession at the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Developmentís (CIPD) Managing through a Downturn Conference. Chaired by the CIPD Director of Public Policy and Chief Economist John Philpott, the conference will provide practical guidance on all areas of management that need to be addressed to help organisations survive the recession and emerge stronger than competitors in the upturn.
The Conference, to be held on 11 March in Manchester and on 17 March in London, will provide organisations innovative ways to reduce costs, recruit and retain top talent, keep survivors engaged, as well as information on the often complex legal aspects of organisational restructuring.
Dr John Philpott says:
ìOur latest Labour Market Outlook Survey indicates that UK organisations are seeking alternatives to redundancy during these difficult times for managers taking tough decisions. Now is the time for innovative managers to invest in giving employees new skills through tailored learning and development closely tied to organisational objectives.
ìOver and above the difficult issue of redundancy, the manager role will be more important than ever. This conference will not only offer tips from experts on how to run a tight ship, but will also give clear guidance from case studies who already look to emerge from the recession in a strong and competitive position.î
Sessions include:
HR Taking the Lead through the Downturn: Chantal Free, Practice Leader Human Capital at Watson Wyatt
The Legal Aspects of Reorganisation, Restructuring and Redundancies: Ian Hunter, Head of Employment Law at Bird and Bird LLP and Michael Chivers, Vice President Human Resources at Sony Ericsson
Innovative Ways to Reduce Expenditure: George Cowcher, Chief Executive, Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire Chamber of Commerce, will offer new insights into how to control the costs of an organisation
Motivating and Engaging in the Context of Change: Jeremy Day, Employee Engagement and Diversity Manager at Boots UK, and Mark Moorton, Engagement Director at AXA PPP
