The Department for Business, Enterprise & Regulatory Reform (BERR) has indicated that it will be reviewing the regulations that currently exist for checking workers supplied for permanent recruitment by employment agencies.
Tom Hadley, the Recruitment and Employment Confederationís (REC) Director of External Relations says: ìRecruitment agencies should be certain that the candidates they are putting forward to their clients are suitable for the position. This is particularly important for workers who are around children or vulnerable adults. Agencies must ensure that those they are placing are not a danger to those they work withî.
Hadley continued: ìHowever there may well be a case to be made that the Conduct Regulations currently place too much of a burden on agencies putting forward candidates to a permanent position. It may be that the client will want to do some of those checks themselves and at the moment, there may be some duplications. We will be consulting members and responding to the consultation now it is publishedî.
