Jobs advertised on the internet in the Australian multimedia sector grew 130.50 pct during 2006, fueled by the resurgent tech boom, online recruitment group Olivier Recruitment said.

The firm, which conducts a monthly survey of jobs advertised on the internet, said the building and construction job sector rose strongly, up 106.11 pct in 2006, partly on the back of a booming resources sector.

It said the big losers were the two traditional professional sectors - legal jobs, up just 16.26 pct from 2005, and accounting jobs which increased 19.13 pct.

It said national growth was recorded across all sectors with the firmís Olivier Internet Job Index 49.74 pct higher than 2005.

In December, the index rose 5.5 pct seasonally adjusted from November.

The firm said business confidence and record low unemployment combined to produce íthe surprisingí December result which defies seasonal patterns. The job market usually weakens in December.

Contributing to growth in December were building and construction jobs rising by 15.9 pct from November and IT jobs rising by 6.3 pct from a month earlier.

Economists expect the strength of the job market to be a key factor for the Reserve Bank of Australiaís policymakers when they meet for the first time this year on Feb 6 to discuss interest rates.
